The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes

The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) are demand oriented programmes designed to foster institutional development. To maximize the fellowships' impact on capacity-building, NFP funded training must be linked to the institutional development of organizations. A wide range of organizations are eligible - governmetnal, private and non-governmental.

The NFP is initiated and fully funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the budget for development cooperation. The programmes are administered by the Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education (Nuffic).

Target Group

The NFP target group consists of mid-career professionals who are already in employment and who are nationals of and working in one of the selected countries (one of them being Egypt). While fellowships are awarded to individuals, the need for training must occur within the context of the organization for which an applicant works. The training must help the organization to develop its capacity. This means that applicants must be nominated by their employers. In fact, an application without the support of an employer will not be considered.

NFP Sub Programmes

The NFP offers the following options:
Individual fellowships for:
– short courses
– master degree programmes;
– PhD studies

Applying for NFP

PhD degrees can be pursued at 21 Dutch universities and institutes for international education. A list of these universities and institutes and other relevant information can be found in the NFP brochure 2009 or on the Nuffic website.

Applicants for master’s degree programmes or short courses must first gain academic admission to the course of their choice before applying for a fellowship through the Netherlands embassy or consulate in their country. Also, they can only apply for an NFP fellowship if the course is on the NFP course list for that particular year.

In all cases, applicants are advised to contact the Netherlands embassy well in advance for specific instructions, and to inquire about specific local procedures and deadlines, requirements and selection criteria. These may differ from the general information provided on the Nuffic’s website or in the brochures. Applicants are requested to call any Sunday or Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:00 to make an appointment for an interview.

Information regarding studying in the Netherlands in general and the Netherlands Fellowship Programmes in particular can be found at www.studying.nl

A hardcopy of the NFP brochure 2009 and the brochure/CD-rom 'Study in Holland' are available at the reception of the embassy. For more information contact the embassy every Sunday or Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:00. Applicants are requested to ensure that all required documents are in order and ready before the interview.
